In October of 2020, SSI at Pace University passed "A Resolution Acknowledging, Defining, and Condemning Antisemitism," adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism on campus.
The resolution was introduced by SSI Pace President Eden Litvin and co-sponsored by Hillel at Pace University and IAC Mishelanu. Pace became the 5th student government in the country to formally adopt the IHRA definition, making the campus safer for its 10% Jewish student population. In 2021, SSI encouraged Pace University administration to formally adopt the IHRA definition into its curriculum and staff training - cementing the victory at an institutional level. |
"As we celebrate the success of the passing of the IHRA definition at PACE University, we need to think about the importance of this resolution. When we came up with the idea for the bill, it was in response to the spike in antisemitic attacks across NYC. Calling on the university to adopt the IHRA definition was perhaps our biggest victory, as we secured a concrete definition for what antisemitism is, and what forms of anti-zionism and anti-Israel propaganda are antisemitic. I am proud to have been a part of making this a reality and making our university a safe space for not only the class of Jewish students currently enrolled but all Jewish students that will be enrolled at Pace University in the future. We look forward to having a safe space on our campus and knowing that the university stands behind our community." Eden L. | 2021 SSI President, Pace University
