The Pro-Active Grassroots Approach On Campus: Get Involved, Be A Leader!
Students Supporting Israel leaders are involved on campus. This means that we believe in taking action and being pro-active!
Our national movement understands that the fight against the delegitimization of Israel on college campuses is also happening in our student governments. Therefore, it is our responsibility to be involved with our student governments, to act within them, and not simply wait for an opportunity to respond to actions we do not agree with.
Thus far, Students Supporting Israel was able to successfully propose, lead and pass 11 resolutions in the student governments of:
1. University of Minnesota, 2014
2. Ryerson University, Canada, 2015
3. University of Georgia, 2015
4. Indiana University, 2015
5 & 9. Texas A&M - 2015 & 2018
6. Capital University, 2016
7. Kent State University, 2017
8. Chapman University, 2017
10. Wake Forest University, 2018
11. Arizona State University, 2020
The resolutions passed variously called for the support of Israel through the investment in and increase of study abroad programs in Israel. Another resolutions, at Ryerson University, Indiana University and Capital University, called for the adoption of the U.S State Department definition of Antisemitism. Some resolutions called to take action against the BDS movement like at Wake Forest University.
In addition to the resolutions, other SSI efforts included three chapters at the University of Minnesota, San Diego State University and DePaul University, defeating anti Israel proposals in their student governments. On two other campuses, the University of Minnesota and Augsburg College, SSI members ran for the student body Presidency position, finishing second. Other SSI members from different chapters are holding various positions in student governments, such as student senators and at large representatives.
