In April 2019, the University of St. Thomas Undergraduate Student Government passed a resolution affirming the Jewish people's right to self-determination and formally adopting a definition of antisemitism that includes the delegitimization of Israel.
The bill was introduced by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and adopted by the full student government. It marked SSI's 11th pro-Israel bill passed nationwide, coming just weeks after SSI chapters defeated BDS resolutions at Columbia University and UC Santa Barbara. The resolution was championed by SSI St. Thomas President Simon S.. |
"After months of hard work and discussion, I am proud to announce that the University of Saint Thomas has adopted a resolution to condemn anti-Semitism on its campus. It shows the university truly cares about the Jewish people’s rights to self-determination and expression of their faith. The success of this initiative is important for a lot of reasons. Primarily, it promotes the University of Saint Thomas as an institution that accepts people of the Jewish faith with open arms and will always strive to protect our rights."
