Resolution - Support of Aggie Israelis and Protection of Jewish Students Resolution | March 07, 2018

On March 7, 2018, the Texas A&M Student Senate passed a pro-Israel resolution in its 70th session with a vote of 38-6-4, making it the first pro-Israel bill passed in a student senate nationwide that academic year. The bill was co-authored by Senator Jacob Powell (College of Engineering) and Senator Olivia Krog (Off-Campus Caucus), with support from Aggie Students Supporting Israel and national partner StandWithUs.

The resolution affirmed Israel as one of America's strongest allies, declared Jewish and Israeli students valued members of the Aggie family, and recommended that no Texas A&M student organization support or engage with the BDS movement. It marked the second pro-Israel bill passed at Texas A&M, following a resolution in April 2015. The effort was led on the ground by Texas A&M SSI President, Elad D.

"As Jews around the world celebrate Passover, we are instructed to relive the experiences of our ancestors that left Egypt 3000 years ago as if we were the ones crossing the Red Sea. We are also individually encouraged to treat every day as if we are leaving our own personal 'Egypt,' whether 'leaving Egypt' means passing a difficult class, prioritizing one's mental or physical health, or overcoming a significant personal challenge in your life.

Today, the Jewish community at the University of Minnesota has succeeded in this endeavor. United, the entire Jewish community — Minnesota Hillel, Chabad U of M, SSI, AEPI, and Sigma Alpha Mu — succeeded at defining antisemitism on our campus. I am proud and thankful for the support of this coalition of Jewish student organizations and the support of each and every single individual that voted 'yes' in support of our cause. SSI at the University of Minnesota looks forward to a safe and inclusive environment for all students and are excited to see the way in which the IHRA definition of antisemitism will help to make this possible."

Resolution - Study Abroad Expansion | October 07, 2015

On October 7, 2015, the Texas A&M Student Senate unanimously passed the country's first pro-Israel student government resolution of the 2015–2016 academic year. Titled "A Resolution Supporting the Nation of Israel," the bill called on the university to invest in Israel and expand study-abroad opportunities for Aggie students there.

The resolution was sponsored by Senators Joseph H. and Kasey K., and was championed by five members of Aggie Students Supporting Israel, with Jacob A. playing an instrumental role in its crafting and adoption. It marked Texas A&M's second pro-Israel resolution in two years, and was supported by Rabbi Matt Rosenberg, Executive Director of Hillel at Texas A&M.
