Pace University PASSES Adoption of the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism. The bill includes and adopts the IHRA definition which defines antisemitism as “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” |
Pace University is the fifth student government in the country to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism on campus.
SSI at Pace University President Eden Litvin introduced the resolution, co-sponsored by Hillel at Pace University and IAC Mishelanu, titled, "A Resolution Acknowledging, Defining, and Condemning Antisemitism," providing the following quote:
"As we celebrate the success of the passing of the IHRA definition at PACE University, we need to think about the importance of this resolution. When we came up with the idea for the bill, it was in response to the spike in antisemitic attacks across NYC. Calling on the university to adopt the IHRA definition was perhaps our biggest victory, as we secured a concrete definition for what antisemitism is, and what forms of anti-zionism and anti-Israel propaganda are antisemitic. I am proud to have been a part of making this a reality and making our university a safe space for not only the class of Jewish students currently enrolled but all Jewish students that will be enrolled at Pace University in the future. We look forward to having a safe space on our campus and knowing that the university stands behind our community."
Students Supporting Israel movement couldn't be more proud of the SSI at Pace University Chapter who worked tirelessly on this initiative! We appreciate the love and support from the Pro-Israel and Jewish Community, including the IAC Mishelanu Program. This legislation proves the importance of the adoption of the IHRA definition in student governments, which makes it clear that anti-Israel bias is of no exception to discrimination towards the Jewish students at Pace University. Pace University proved its true defense of its Jewish students, making the Pace community safer for its 10% Jewish campus population.
