Foothill College UNANIMOUSLY Passes Resolution Adopting IHRA Definition of Antisemitism.
The resolution to adopt the definition of antisemitism passed in a unanimous vote of 28-0! The bill includes and adopts the IHRA definition which defines antisemitism as “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” |
In a statement by Students Supporting Israel at Foothill College President, Ori Nirpaz said passing this resolution was an obligation for he and his board against the antisemitism and anti-Zionism nationwide.
Foothill College is the first student government in the Bay area to pass and adopt the IHRA definition. Foothill joins University of Buenos Aires and Arizona State University as the third SSI chapter to pass the IHRA definition. Students Supporting Israel would like to thank Hillel of Silicon Valley! Sarita Bronstein, Executive Director of Hillel Silicon Valley, Yarin Yosef Shachagi, Israel Fellow, and the rest of the team, thank you for supporting and guiding our students on the ground. |
HUGE Mazel tov to our chapter at Foothill College! We are so proud of the effort and will power put forth by the students at Foothill. SSI at Foothill College has shown its leadership in the worldwide fight against anti-Semitism by adopting the IHRA working definition. We applaud this notion, and encourage other chapters, and non-chapters to emulate the initiative led by Foothill to stop antisemitism once and for all!
Antisemitism is no exception to discrimination and hate, and SSI students are working relentlessly to obliterate history’s oldest form of hate.

“There is classic antisemitism, but there is also modern antisemitism, and this resolution leaves no room for debate on what hurts the Jewish people. This resolution was passed to prevent cases in the future and to be proactive.”
