University of Georgia student government UNANIMOUSLY adopted the working definition of antisemitism in support of the Jewish students and the pro Israel community!
............................................................................. The bill includes and adopts the IHRA definition which defines antisemitism as “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” |
UGA is the ninth SSI chapter to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism and the first school to do so in the Spring semester of 2021.
SSI President Kara Litwin was the direct person that pushed for the addition of the IHRA definition into the bill provided the following quote:
"With the Alarming rise in antisemitism plaguing our country, it is of grave importance that all Jewish students feel safe and protected on their campuses.
With the recent unanimous passing of Resolution 33-04 here at UGA, which calls for the adoption of the IHRA’s definition of antisemitism, I, along with my fellow Jewish classmates, feel inspired to continue to stand up for the Jewish community. It often feels easy to lose hope that any progress can be made to further protect my peers and myself, but with the passing of the IHRA bill and today being Holocaust Remembrance Day, I’ve never felt prouder to be a part of the Jewish community."

"SGA with help from Students Supporting Israel...unanimously passed the decision to accept its official definition of antisemitism in order to warrant protection for Jewish students against harassment and discrimination"
