#DEFINEittoFIGHTit

The SSI National movement and its chapters are working on promoting the institutionalized adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism throughout student governments, academic departments, and university deans.

We call on all students and organizations who are interested in doing so to contact us for more information.
The IHRA definition of antisemitism is adopted by many counties and international bodies, including the U.S. Department of State.

We believe that the first step in fighting antisemitism, is defining it.
We created the hashtag
#DEFINEittoFIGHTit to be used on social media.

Starting with the 2020/21 academic year, the SSI movement was successful in pushing for the official adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism at the following places:

  • Arizona State University
  • Buenos Aires University
  • Foothill College
  • Pace University
  • City College, NY
  • St. Lawrence University
  • University of Manitoba
  • University of Georgia
  • University of California, Santa Barbara
  • Kennesaw State University
  • University of Minnesota
  • University of Iowa
  • California Polytechnic State University
  • Duke University

*Additional SSI chapters are currently working on promoting the adaptation of IHRA definition of antisemitism around the USA and Canada.
“This resolution helps make it clear what is antisemitic and what is not. There is classic antisemitism, but today there is also modern antisemitism, targeting not only Jewish students for simply bring Jewish, but also students who identify as Zionists. Modern antisemitism demonizes and singles out the State of Israel for its Jewish character, crossing the line from valid criticism into becoming antisemitic in nature.

The IHRA definition, adopted by many international bodies, leaves no room for debate on what can be considered as antisemitic and what not, as it provides detailed examples and explanations of instances that can be considered antisemitic. Officially adopting the IHRA definition on campuses is a proactive way to protect Jewish and Zionist students's rights and ensure their safety."
